چکیده

Network games (NGs) are played on directed graphs and are extensively used in network design and analysis. Search problems for NGs include finding special strategy profiles such as a Nash equilibrium and a globally optimal solution. The networks modeled by NGs may be huge. In formal verification, abstraction has proven to be an extremely effective technique for reasoning about systems with big and even infinite state spaces. We describe an abstraction-refinement methodology for reasoning about NGs. Our methodology is based on an abstraction function that maps the state space of an NG to a much smaller state space. We search for a global optimum and a Nash equilibrium by reasoning on an underand an overapproximation defined on top of this smaller state space. When the approximations are too coarse to find such profiles, we refine the abstraction function. Our experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of the methodology.

Computing Laboratory A GAME-BASED ABSTRACTION-REFINEMENT FRAMEWORK FOR MARKOV DECISION PROCESSES

In the field of model checking, abstraction refinement has proved to be an extremely successful methodology for combating the state-space explosion problem. However, little practical progress has been made in the setting of probabilistic verification. In this paper we present a novel abstraction-refinement framework for Markov decision processes (MDPs), which are widely used for modelling and v...

A Counter Example Guided Abstraction Refinement Framework for Compositional Verification of Concurrent C Programs

Automatic verification of software implementations is a major challenge in the domain of formal methods. The state of the art solutions to this problem suffer from one or more of the following drawbacks. First, most tools attempt to scale to large implementations. But since they use trace containment as a notion of conformance, they risk an exponential blowup in the size of the specification. T...

Counterexample-Guided Abstraction Refinement

We present an automatic iterative abstraction-refinement methodology in which the initial abstract model is generated by an automatic analysis of the control structures in the program to be verified. Abstract models may admit erroneous (or “spurious”) counterexamples. We devise new symbolic techniques which analyze such counterexamples and refine the abstract model correspondingly. The refineme...

An Abstraction-Refinement Framework for Trigger Querying

Trigger querying is the problem of finding, given a system M and an LTL formula φ, the set of scenarios that trigger φ in M ; that is, the language L of finite computations of M such that all infinite computations that have a prefix in L continue with a suffix that satisfies φ. For example, the trigger query M |=? 7→ F err asks for the set of scenarios after which err aught to eventually happen...
